1. The UNIFY Guarantee: if you don't reach agreement on your original topic in 100 rounds of UNIFY, then you earn $5,000.
2. The Game consists of two parties ("Players"). Each Player can be either an individual or a group, and an individual Player can play another individual Player or a Player group. A Player group can also play another Player group or an individual Player.
3. The Guarantee money for not reaching agreement in 100 rounds of UNIFY (the "Reward") is currently $5,000 for two participating and registered entrant Players to share. The $5,000 includes any taxes owed.
4. Currently, there are
eight (8) Rewards available out of ten (10) max Rewards to disburse per calendar year.
Smegma and SkrillexFiend are closest to getting the next Reward, with their game at Round 19!!
Rewards are first come, first served.
5. You have "reached 100 rounds without reaching agreement" if "Round 101" displays at the top of Your UNIFY Game, and you still have not reached agreement on the initial topic. The UNIFY computer moderator will also notify both Players ("You") if You get that far.
6. SPM follows a well-defined set of criteria for determining Reward distributions. The criteria are outlined below, as a finite set of Game Situations/Outcomes and their corresponding Reward distributions. You and SPM agree that the following Game Situations/Outcomes will yield the following corresponding Rewards:
Outcome A:
Player A convinces Player B, where Player A provides one or more
reason pairs (each
reason pair being a
why claim and an
if/then claim to match), and Player B
agrees with one or more of the reason pairs
provided (both the why claim and the matching
if/then claim), and thus Player B changes
their mind on one or more of their previously stated
claims mentioned earlier in the Game's claim
tree.
Outcome A's Game Result:
The Game terminated in agreement, and since the Game worked, no Reward money will be
distributed.
Outcome B:
Player A convinces Player B, where the UNIFY computer moderator asks Player A to
negate Player B's given claim, and it turns out that Player B ends up agreeing with
Player A's "negated version", without
needing to proceed any further in the Game, and thus Player B changes their mind
on one or more of their previously stated claims mentioned earlier in the Game's
claim tree.
Outcome B's Game Result:
The Game terminated in agreement, and since the Game worked, no Reward money will
be distributed.
Outcome C:
The Players "reach 100 rounds without reaching agreement", and
do so without using any
Game Exploit, Known or Unknown. (SPM's sole discretion
will be used to determine
whether a Known Exploit, an Unknown Exploit, or no Exploit was used).
Outcome C's Game Result:
The Game terminated, but not in agreement, and so the Reward money will be distributed
to the Players according to the UNIFY Terms Of Use.
Outcome D:
The Players "reach 100 rounds without reaching agreement", and
do so while intentionally or accidentally making use of a
Known Game Exploit. (SPM's sole
discretion will be used to determine whether a Known Exploit, an Unknown Exploit,
or no Exploit was used).
Outcome D's Game Result:
The Game terminated, but not in agreement. Even so, a Known Game Exploit was used,
so no Reward money will be distributed.
Outcome E:
The Players "reach 100 rounds without reaching agreement", and
do so while intentionally or accidentally making use of an
Unknown Game Exploit. (SPM's sole discretion will be used to
determine whether a Known Exploit, an Unknown Exploit, or no Exploit was used).
Outcome E's Game Result:
The Game terminated, but not in agreement, and so the Reward money will be awarded
to the Players according to the UNIFY Terms Of Use, for finding a
new Exploit.
The Official Rules will then be updated to include the new Exploit as a
Known Exploit.
Outcome F:
The Players "reach 100 rounds without reaching agreement", and
do so by exploiting a bug in
the software (in other words, the Players "reached 100 rounds",
but wouldn't have if there was
a trained human moderating instead of the computer).
Outcome F's Game Result:
The Game terminated, but not in agreement. In this Outcome, Players will be paid a sum at
SPM's discretion for finding the software bug, but no Reward money will be distributed.
Outcome G:
Player A convinces Player B, where the Players are able to perform a simple "claim
verification demonstration" when asked, and they reach agreement after conducting the simple
demonstration.
Outcome G's Game Result:
The Game terminated in agreement, and since the Game worked, no Reward money will be distributed.
Outcome H:
Player A and Player B have a Situation where they are asked whether they are able to perform
a simple "claim verification demonstration", and they agree that they are unable to perform a
simple demonstration, and thus end up being forced to reach a "We don't BOTH know whether X is
true," version of their
ultimate reasons and one or more previously stated
claims mentioned earlier in the Game's claim tree.
Outcome H's Game Result:
The Players have reached agreement, however reluctantly. The Game has therefore terminated
in agreement, and since the Game worked, no Reward money will be distributed.
Situation I:
Player A and Player B have a Situation where they are asked whether they are able to perform
a simple "claim verification demonstration", and they can not agree whether a simple
demonstration can be done.
Situation I's Game Result:
The Players agree that this Situation constitutes a Game that is still ongoing but paused,
and the Players agree to start a new (and separate) Game, with the topic being,
"Player A: Simple demonstration X can not be performed. (etc.)" If the "new" Game
terminates in agreement, then the original Game can be unpaused and finished according to
Outcome G, Outcome H, or Situation J. If the "new" Game terminates in some other way
besides ending in agreement, then the original Game terminates with no Reward money distributed,
and in the "new" Game, the Reward is distributed or not distributed according to the
Situation/Outcome in which the "new" Game terminated. The original Game, however, remains
in an unfinished and paused state until the "new" Game finishes via one of the possible
Situations/Outcomes listed.
Situation J:
Player A and Player B have a Situation where they are asked whether they are able to perform
a simple "claim verification demonstration", and they initially agree that a simple
demonstration can be done, but the simple demonstration for some reason does not get both
users to reach agreement.
Situation J's Game Result:
In this case, the simple demonstration that was meant to verify "Claim X" was not adequate,
and the Players agree to
"Edit Menu >> Re-Explore" and thus re-enter
Claim X into the
system, and re-assess Claim X, until: a) they agree on a possible simple demonstration that
can be done, and finish the Game via Outcome G above, b) they agree that a simple
demonstration can not be performed, and finish the Game via Outcome H above, or c) they
cannot agree whether a simple demonstration can be done, and thus continue their Game via
Situation I above.
Situation K:
Player A and Player B have a Situation where Player A cannot tell Player B why a given
claim of theirs is true.
Situation K's Game Result:
The Players agree that this Situation constitutes a Game that is still ongoing but paused,
and the Players agree to start a new (and separate) Game, with the new topic being,
"Player A: I can't tell Player B why X is true." If this "new" Game terminates in agreement,
then the original Game can be unpaused and finished according to the Situations/Outcomes
listed. If the "new" Game terminates in some other way besides ending in agreement, then
the original Game terminates with no Reward money distributed, and in the "new" Game, the Reward
is distributed or not distributed according to the Situation/Outcome in which the "new"
Game terminated. The original Game, however, remains in an unfinished and paused state until
the "new" Game finishes via one of the possible Situations/Outcomes listed.
Outcome L:
Both Players ultimately agree that Player A cannot tell Player B why a certain claim of
theirs is true.
Outcome L's Game Result:
Both Players agree that this counts as terminating in agreement, and therefore no Reward
money will be awarded.
Situation M:
During a given Game Round, Player A continues answering any given Round question or
question set ad infinitum and stays in the Round indefinitely. (For example, Player A
answers, "Yes, the claim is true for some other reason that I have." every time they are
asked if they have another reason for holding their claim true, and the Player does this
ad infinitum, extending the Round indefinitely.)
Situation M's Game Result:
This Situation constitutes a Game that is still ongoing, and must terminate via one of
the other Outcomes listed.
Situation N:
The Players stop answering the UNIFY computer moderator's questions before the "100 rounds
have been reached".
Situation N's Game Result:
The Game is still ongoing, and is unfinished and paused, waiting for the Players to resume
answering questions. This Game must terminate in one of the other Situations/Outcomes listed.
Outcome O:
A Situation or Outcome happens besides the Situations/Outcomes listed here.
Outcome O's Game Result:
The Game has terminated. If agreement was reached, then the Game terminated in agreement,
and no Reward money will be distributed. If agreement was not reached, then the Game
terminated, but not in agreement, and the Reward money will be distributed to the Players according
to the UNIFY Terms Of Use. SPM will then update the
UNIFY Terms Of Use and UNIFY Guarantee Official Rules accordingly.
7. In these UNIFY Official Rules, SPM agrees to use its best efforts to use reasonable definitions for the terms in blue, but if there arises a discrepancy between Your definition and SPM's definition of a term in blue, then You agree to adhere to SPM's definition.
8. In the Situations/Outcomes listed above in Rule #6, either Player can be Player A, and that would make the other Player Player B.
9. If a UNIFY Game splits into more than one branch, and each branch terminates according to the Situations/Outcomes listed in Rule #6, then You get to choose the ONE (1) most advantageous branch, and Your Game terminates according to that branch's Situation/Outcome and corresponding Reward distribution. (In other words, you can only get one (1) Reward per Game, and You cannot receive Reward money and also be paid a sum via Outcome F in the same Game.
10. Both parties in their UNIFY game must agree to and adhere to the UNIFY Terms Of Use. The terms can and will occasionally be updated, in accordance with said Terms.
11. Both parties in their UNIFY game must also follow the UNIFY ProTips as closely as they can. The ProTips are there to address frequently asked questions and stumbling blocks that beginners and even professional UNIFY-ers run into. The ProTips can and will be occasionally updated by SPM without notice.
12. You are only eligible for the Reward money if you stay away from "taboo topics". If either Player has less than 1 completed Games under their belt, then political UNIFY topics are "taboo". If either Player has less than 2 completed Games under their belt, then religious UNIFY topics are taboo. The UNIFY computer moderator may let you know if you're discussing a taboo topic, but the UNIFY moderator may not always catch it. SPM's sole discretion will be used to determine whether a UNIFY topic is taboo. It is recommended that You air on the side of caution when choosing UNIFY topics before You have the required number of UNIFY Games under Your belt.
13. In ANY UNIFY Game involving Reward money, SPM reserves the right to label the gain of that Reward as a "Legitimately Received Reward" or an "Illegitimately Received Reward" pursuant to SPM's sole and absolute discretion. You can get Reward money from an "Illegitimately Received Reward", but You can only get the Reward more than once if all of your received Rewards are Legitimately Received, by SPM's definition of a Legitimately Received Reward. If Your latest Reward was Illegitimately Received according to SPM, then You are no longer eligible to earn Rewards in the future. In addition, no individual, acting alone or in a group, that has an Illegitimately Received Reward on their record is eligible for future Rewards.
